Cultural Speakers

Cultural practices, beliefs, and norms play a very important role not only in delivering health care to clients and patients, but also in how that health care is received and what outcomes are possible. Diversity within those beliefs and practices, and as a result of available resources or social economic/demographic circumstances, must be fully understood in order for health care professionals to provide the best care possible no matter where they are in the world, or what culture they are practicing within.

At GOLD Perinatal Care, we understand the importance of Culture and Diversity in health care, and we are working hard to bring you speakers and presentations from around the world that will help you understand the patients and clients you are working with. Discovering how health care is provided and received in other countries and cultures around the world can have a positive impact on our own professional practice. Given that culture is defined by much more than political borders, GOLD Perinatal Care invites speakers to share their knowledge and expertise about perinatal health care from a geographically-based focus or a people-group focus from within a particular set of beliefs, lifestyle or minority. Dan Raz

Written by
Dan Raz, MD, MAS, co-director of the lung cancer program and director of lung cancer screening at City of Hope, specializes in lung cancer surgery — and in raising public awareness about lung cancer and lung cancer screening. He speaks and does videos and podcasts on subjects ranging from new advances in lung cancer surgery to cancer prevention. Dr. Raz joined City of Hope in 2012 after fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital. A graduate of MIT, he earned his medical degree at University of Pennsylvania.
A prolific researcher, Dr. Raz has authored dozens of articles, including studies on lung cancer screening, lung cancer surgery, and cutting edge new treatments for lung cancer. CityofHope.org/dan-raz

Renata Matheus Faccioli

Renata Faccioli is a Medical student at the Faculdade de Medicina da Universidade de São Paulo (FMUSP), with a special interest in projects regarding innovation and technology applied to health care. She is Co-Founder and President of the university’s academic group MedTech, which aims the idealization, research, and development of solutions for needs in health care, acting in association with renowned doctors associated to the Hospital das Clínicas da Faculdade de Medicina da Universidade de São Paulo (HC-FMUSP) complex. Endeavoring in Design Thinking and Biodesign, she is a Superior Intern at the Sociedade Beneficente Israelita Brasileira Hospital Albert Einstein, with participance in the Health Design Lab of the Board of Innovation. Furthermore, she is member of a group of research in thoracic oncology, developing studies alongside experts with vast scientific experience.
