Cultural Speakers

Cultural practices, beliefs, and norms play a very important role not only in delivering health care to clients and patients, but also in how that health care is received and what outcomes are possible. Diversity within those beliefs and practices, and as a result of available resources or social economic/demographic circumstances, must be fully understood in order for health care professionals to provide the best care possible no matter where they are in the world, or what culture they are practicing within.

At GOLD Perinatal Care, we understand the importance of Culture and Diversity in health care, and we are working hard to bring you speakers and presentations from around the world that will help you understand the patients and clients you are working with. Discovering how health care is provided and received in other countries and cultures around the world can have a positive impact on our own professional practice. Given that culture is defined by much more than political borders, GOLD Perinatal Care invites speakers to share their knowledge and expertise about perinatal health care from a geographically-based focus or a people-group focus from within a particular set of beliefs, lifestyle or minority. Ken Harada

Dr. Ken Harada specialized in the treatment of thoracic cancers with radiotherapy. He completed all post-graduate training at National Cancer Center Hospital, Tokyo. He joined the faculty at Showa University in 2021. He is an active member of many national and international organizations related to radiation oncology serving the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer (IASLC). His clinical research focuses on high-precision radiotherapy such as Stereotactic Body Radiotherapy and Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy. His basic research focuses on the application of engineering for advanced cancer inventing ultra elastic covered stent for esophagus cancer. He is also interested in the search of biomarkers for oligometastatic disease and in new technique for whole brain radiotherapy analyzed based on 3D atlas of cortical structures using artificial intelligent.

Suzanne Chambers

Professor Suzanne Chambers AO is a health psychologist and registered nurse who has been working as a practitioner-researcher in psycho-oncology for over 30 years. She was awarded her PhD in 2004 within the School of Psychology at Griffith University and has over 300 peer reviewed publications and numerous books, book chapters and monographs. Her work has focussed on developing models to predict help seeking and adjustment after cancer: designing remote access psychological interventions for people affected by cancer; integrating peer support into controlled design methodologies; integrating distress screening into interventions to target high distress cancer patient groups. She is currently the Executive Dean of Health Sciences at the Australian Catholic University.
