Afaf Abed
Dr Abed is an enthusiastic, persistent, talented young medical oncologist with special interest in research in immunotherapy in lung cancer. She is looking specifically at the genomic Human Leukocyte antigen (HLA) as predictive marker of survival in locally advanced or metastatic NSCLC patients treated with single agent immunotherapy. She is leading multiple researches in lung cancer while investigating the role of other blood-based biomarkers for response to either anti-PD1/PDL1 alone or in combination with chemotherapy especially pre-treatment TCR profile and ALI score (incorporating body mass index, neutrophil lymphocyte ration and albumin).
Dr Abed is a junior oncologist received her FRACP letter on Aug 2019 after completing one year of research fellowship provided by WA Cancer and Palliative Care Network Policy Unit. 2019. She joined Edith Cowan University as a Doctor of Philosophy student since Nov 2019. She is progressing rapidly and expecting to complete her PhD in Nov 2022.
Dr Abed was able to secure multiple national and international grants for her lung cancer research worth $35,000. She received multiple international awards including ESMO 2020 travel grant $500, and ALCC 2020 travel grant $500. Dr Abed won highly competitive international awards like the IASLC Distinguished, Lectureship Award $500 and the International Lung Cancer Foundation Fellowship Award $65,000.
Dr Abed has multiple publications in high impact journals as a first, second and co-author. These are J Immunother Cancer, cells and Front Oncol. She has conducted multiple international talks and still contributing to enrich oncological meetings with the findings of her research.
Besides that, Dr Abed has an extensive knowledge in phase one trials through her role at Linear Clinical Oncology.
