Cultural Speakers

Cultural practices, beliefs, and norms play a very important role not only in delivering health care to clients and patients, but also in how that health care is received and what outcomes are possible. Diversity within those beliefs and practices, and as a result of available resources or social economic/demographic circumstances, must be fully understood in order for health care professionals to provide the best care possible no matter where they are in the world, or what culture they are practicing within.

At GOLD Perinatal Care, we understand the importance of Culture and Diversity in health care, and we are working hard to bring you speakers and presentations from around the world that will help you understand the patients and clients you are working with. Discovering how health care is provided and received in other countries and cultures around the world can have a positive impact on our own professional practice. Given that culture is defined by much more than political borders, GOLD Perinatal Care invites speakers to share their knowledge and expertise about perinatal health care from a geographically-based focus or a people-group focus from within a particular set of beliefs, lifestyle or minority. Catherine Belle Meador

Dr. Meador is a medical oncology fellow in the Dana-Farber/Partners CancerCare Hematology-Oncology Fellowship. She earned her MD-PhD at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine and completed her internal medicine residency at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in 2019. She has a laboratory background studying acquired resistance to targeted therapies in EGFR-mutant lung cancer, and she is currently completing her senior fellowship with the thoracic oncology group at Massachusetts General Hospital where she is focusing on clinical-translational research. Her research interests include advancing therapies for small cell lung cancer as well as investigating mechanisms of histologic transformation in lung cancer more broadly.

I graduated from Korea University College of Medicine (Seoul, S. Korea) and trained at Department of Internal Medicine of Korea University Medical Center. Now I work at Kyung Hee University Hospital (Division of Pulmonary Medicine, Department of Internal Medicine) as an associate professor of Kyung Hee University (Seoul, S. Korea). I am an active member of the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer (IASLC), the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR), and other international and domestic academic societies. Clinically and academically, my main interest is lung cancer. I am working on various fields of oncologic research including tumor biology, cancer biomarkers, and immunotherapy. I have published more than 50 papers on SCI(E) journals.
