Ella Kazerooni

Dr. Kazerooni is at the University of Michigan. Specializing in cardiothoracic radiology, her academic focus is the development, validation and integration of advanced imaging technologies into practice, from bench to beside. Her work in lung cancer screening includes leading the development of ACR LungRADS, the ACR Designated Lung Cancer Screening Center program within the CT accreditation program, and the ACR Lung Cancer Screening Registry. She chairs the National Lung Cancer Roundtable through the American Cancer Society - dedicated to creating lung cancer survivors by improving care across the lung cancer care continuum from early detection through treatment, to eliminating stigma that clouds lung cancer patient care, and creating a public consciousness of hope for patients and families impacted by the leading cause of cancer death.

Her interest in lung cancer screening led to serving as a site PI for NLST, and includes leading the development of the ACR LungRADS, the ACR Designated Lung Cancer Screening Center program as part of the ACR CT accreditation program, and the ACR Lung Cancer Screening Registry. She is honored to serve as the inaugural Chair of the National Lung Cancer Roundtable through the American Cancer Society - dedicated to creating lung cancer survivors by improving care across the lung cancer care continuum from early detection through treatment, to eliminating the stigma that clouds lung cancer patient care, and creating a public consciousness of hope for patients and families impacted by this leading cause of cancer death.

Academic

Dr. Ricardi is Full Professor of Radiation Oncology at University of Turin, Italy, since 2006 (Associate Professor since 2002).
He is currently Dean of School of Medicine at University of Turin.
He worked as Dean of the Graduation School for Radiographers and Radiation Therapy Therapists (2012-2016).
Dr. Ricardi is Director of Post-Graduation Residency School in Radiation Oncology at University of Turin since 2006.

Clinical

Dr. Ricardi is currently Chairman of Radiation Oncology at University of Turin and Director of the Department of Oncology at Health and Science Academic Hospital in Turin.
He spent visiting periods abroad, with research grants in some cases: Gray Laboratory and Mount Vernon Hospital, UK (1993), Royal Marsden Hospital, UK (1995), St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, USA (1996), Aarhus University, Denmark (1997), Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, USA (1999).
The vast majority of his career was spent at Turin University Hospital, where he became Junior Assistant in 1990 and Senior Physician in 1993. In 1997 he got the role of chair of Pediatric Radiation Oncology at Children’s Hospital in Turin; in 2002 he became Director of the Radiation Oncology Department at Alessandria Community Hospital.
At the end of 2002, he became Director, as Associate Professor, of the Radiation Oncology Department of Turin University Hospital, where he started his career.

Research and Science

Dr. Ricardi’s main areas of clinical research interest included, during the years, lymphoma and leukemia, lung cancer, CNS tumors, pediatric oncology. He is also an expert in the development of cutting-edge technologies in Radiation Oncology.
Dr. Ricardi has authored more than 320 full research papers.
He participated as invited speaker in a number of national and international conferences (>350).
He is active in many educational activities, both at national and international level. From this point of view, he was (and still is) very active within the ESTRO School (Faculty for the following Courses: CNS Tumors, Combined Modality Treatments, Hematological Malignancies, Pediatric Radiation Oncology: serving for the latter also as Course Director).

Various

Dr. Ricardi is member of many national (AIRO) and international scientific societies such as ESTRO, ASTRO, Honorary Member of SEOR (Spanish Society of Radiation Oncology), Honorary Member of DEGRO (German Society Radiation Oncology), member of IASLC (International Association Study Lung Cancer), being also member of IASLC ART (Advanced RadioTherapy) Committee and Steering Committee Member of ILROG (International Lymphoma Radiation Oncology Group).
Dr. Ricardi served ESTRO as Board Member (2004-2006), Executive Administrator (2006-2011), Chair of National Societies Committee (2013-206), President Elect (2016-2018).
Currently, Dr. Ricardi is the immediate Past President of the ESTRO (European SocieTy for Radiotherapy and Oncology), after serving as President from April 2018 till April 2020.
