Atocha Romero is Head of Liquid Biopsy Laboratory (LBL), from the Medical Oncology Department, at Hospital Universitario Puerta de Hierro in Madrid (Spain) since 2015. She received her BS in Pharmacy from Universidad Complutense de Madrid in 2002, and her Ph.D. in molecular biology from the same University in 2009. She conducted the Laboratory Medicine residency at Hospital Clinico San Carlos in Madrid, where she subsequently spent 5 years as a post-doctoral fellow working at the molecular oncology laboratory. She has performed several scientific stays at the University of North Carolina, Centro de Investigation Principe Felipe, and University College of London. Her major clinical and research interests are focused on the field of biomarker discovery and non-invasive biomarker testing. Dr. Romero has published over 70 manuscripts in peer review journals. She has received several competitive funding from the Instituto de Salud Carlos III (Spanish Ministry of Health) and the European Social Fund.
