Karen L. Reckamp, MD, MS is Clinical Professor in Medicine, Director of the Division of Medical Oncology at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. She is also the Associate Director of Clinical Research for the Cedars Sinai Cancer, and Medical Oncology Director of the Women’s Guild Lung Institute at Cedars Sinai Medical Center.

She received a master’s degree in Clinical Investigation from the department of Biomathematics at UCLA. Dr. Reckamp also serves as the Associate Director of Clinical Research for the Samuel Oschin Comprehensive Cancer Institute (SOCCI). She obtained my medical degree at the University of Chicago, Pritzker School of Medicine in 1998 with AOA distinction, and trained in Internal Medicine at Washington University’s Barnes-Jewish Hospital. Dr. Reckamp completed fellowship training in Hematology/Oncology at the David Geffen School of Medicine, UCLA in June 2004, and completed a Master of Science degree in Clinical Research (MSCR).

She leads many phase I, II and III studies funded by the NCI, internal funds and industry. Dr. Reckamp is a member of ASCO, AACR, International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer, and SWOG. She participated in the ASCO Leadership Development Program and led the Scientific Committee for metastatic lung cancer for the ASCO annual meeting. Dr. Reckamp has been the past recipient of many honors including American Lung Association, Lung Force Honoree in 2018. She has also authored or co-authored many manuscripts in the field of Thoracic Oncology in high impact journals, including the New England Journal of Medicine.

Dr. Martin joined the University of Virginia, School of Medicine faculty and the UVA Cancer Center as an Associate Professor of Surgery in 2016. She was named Interim Chief of Thoracic Surgery in September, 2020, and received Tenure in 2021. She was been the Clerkship Director for the Department of Surgery since 2018, overseeing surgical education of medical students, and in 2019 became the Associate Program Director for Cardiothoracic Residency at UVA. She was elected into membership of the UVA Academy of Distinguished Educators in 2018. She leads the Thoracic Oncology Tumor Board at the Emily Couric Cancer Center, and the Quality Support Team for thoracic surgery, and co-leads Enhanced Recovery Program for Thoracic Surgery.
Dr. Martin was born and raised in southern California and received her medical degree from the University of California San Diego. Her general surgery residency training was completed at University of California San Francisco. She then trained in cardiothoracic surgery in Houston at Texas Heart Institute, and served as the thoracic track chief resident at MD Anderson Cancer Center. Dr. Martin also obtained a post-doctorate master’s degree in public health from the University of Texas, Houston. She has been nominated by her physician peers as a Top Doctor in Baltimore (2015), Top Doctor in Virginia (2018), and won the Best Practice Award in 2015 for providing excellent, timely access to high quality care with the highest level of patient and referring doctor satisfaction. In 2020 she was recognized for achieving scores in the 99th percentile for patient satisfaction based on Press-Ganey surveys.
Nationally she is on the Steering Committee for Respiratory Cancers for the Alliance for Clinical Trials, an NIH sponsored group, co-leads their Thoracic Surgery group, and participates in several other committees seeking to improve surgical standards for cancer surgery. She serves as the STS representative to the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer. She is the lead investigator of a stage 3 lung cancer trial sponsored by the Alliance, and will be co-chairing two other studies currently in development. The National Cancer Institute Gastrointestinal Malignancy Steering Committee appointed her to the Esophagogastric Task Force in 2019 which evaluates and prioritizes all cooperative group clinical trial concepts related to esophageal and gastric cancer. She is on the Executive Board of the General Thoracic Surgical Club and currently serves on several Workforce Groups in the Society for Thoracic Surgery. She is an exam question writer for SESAP for the American College of Surgeons, and SESAT for the American Board of Thoracic Surgery. She was elected to membership in the American Association for Thoracic Surgery in 2019. She has authored numerous articles in peer reviewed medical journals including Journal of Clinical Oncology, Annals of Surgery, Annals of Thoracic Surgery, and Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery. Dr. Martin has been invited to speak at many national meetings including the American College of Surgeons and American Association for Thoracic Surgery and served as an editor for the Operative Standards for Cancer Surgery 2nd edition book.
